統計をめぐる世界 1

も私の見せたい統計はそんなに多くない、それは人が見たくない統計なのだと思う。人が知りたい統計を深堀するとそこにつながるのか、

実験してみたい。


　私の見せたい総計は、国と地方の財政収支バランス、各国の税率比較、介護医療費の統計。各業界の人件費比較、だが、見たくない人が多い、若しくは見てもどうしようもないということなのだろう。

　　所得税、金融課税、法人税税率を変えて、減税介護福祉の人件費を税金で増やす。それより大事なことはないと思う。

　経済成長でその原資を作る、無駄を省いて、原資を作る、自分たちで何とかする。同じ議論に戻る。秀才の集まるデザイン、コンサルタント、政治家は無力で、市民も民主主義も無力たと諦めたくなる。

　私の見たくない統計は、地球温暖化、とゴミの統計、自分の優先順位が低いし、議論したくないから。だけど今年私の行ったワ－クショップでゴミの統計を知りたいですと言われ、調べて答えた。そこから、見えなかった人のつながりが見えて、関わっている人の見方も変わった。

統計そのものと統計の奥にあるつながりを合わせて言葉とデザイン、コンサルの手段で見せれば風景は変わる。

Statistics Around the World 1

The statistics I want to show are not many, but I think they are the kind that people do not want to see. I wonder if diving deeper into the statistics people are interested in will eventually lead them here.

I want to experiment with that.

The statistics I want to show include the fiscal balance between national and local governments, tax rate comparisons between countries, caregiving and medical cost statistics, and labor cost comparisons across industries. However, I feel many people do not want to see these, or perhaps they think there’s nothing they can do even if they see them.

I believe there’s nothing more important than increasing the wages for caregiving and welfare workers by adjusting the income tax, financial tax, and corporate tax rates and reducing taxes overall.

We need to generate those resources through economic growth, eliminate waste, and figure things out on our own. The discussion always circles back to the same point. It makes me want to give up, thinking that even the most talented designers, consultants, and politicians are powerless, and so too are the citizens and democracy.

The statistics I do not want to see are those related to global warming and waste. They are lower on my list of priorities, and I do not want to debate them. However, during one of my workshops this year, someone said they wanted to learn about waste statistics, so I researched it and provided an answer. From there, I saw connections to people I had not noticed before, and my perspective on those involved also changed.

If we combine statistics themselves with the connections behind them, presenting them through words, design, and consulting methods, the landscape changes.

There are things we can see from the statistics we do not want to look at. Relationships deepen.
