新旧訳聖書を読むのワ－クショップ　ヤコブの井戸

　イエスは女に答えて言われた、この水を飲む者はだれでも、またかわくであろう。しかし、わたしが与える水を飲む者は、いつまでも、かわくことがないばかりか、わたしが与える水は、その人のうちで泉となり、永遠の命に至る水が、わきあがるであろう」

　内面に神はいる。天と人々のつながりとともに。

　なぜイエスはマリヤから生まれたことが大事なのか。なぜ贖いをうけたのか。なぜ、復活したのか。なぜ、これだけ、イエスは、世界に
広がっていたのか。ワ－クショップで聞かれる、その時、私はこの箇所を思い出す。


　信仰者の立場から離れれば、社会により神は作られたといえるだろう。人が家族になり、都市を作り、国を作り、世界帝国を作る。
その過程で、多神教が一神教になる。それを帝国が体制維持のため求める。
　
　長い、人の心、人々の民族の苦しみが救い主と苦しみを取り除く存在を求める。そこにイエスが生まれる。天に、人々の思い、そして人の内面み神は現れる。
　私は天を見る。ここに点をつくった神はいるのか。国生みをした多神教の神がいるのか。私はその上に神がいることを信じる。
　
　


ユダヤを去って、またガリラヤへ行かれた。しかし、イエスはサマリヤを通過しなければならなかった。そこで、イエスはサマリヤのスカルという町においでになった。この町は、ヤコブがその子ヨセフに与えた土地の近くにあったが、そこにヤコブの井戸があった。

イエスは旅の疲れを覚えて、そのまま、この井戸のそばにすわっておられた。時は昼の十二時ごろであった。ひとりのサマリヤの女が水をくみにきたので、イエスはこの女に、
「水を飲ませて下さい」と言われた。弟子たちは食物を買いに町に行っていたのである。


すると、サマリヤの女はイエスに言った、
「あなたはユダヤ人でありながら、どうしてサマリヤの女のわたしに、飲ませてくれとおっしゃるのですか」

これは、ユダヤ人はサマリヤ人と交際していなかったからである。

イエスは答えて言われた、
「もしあなたが神の賜物のことを知り、また、『水を飲ませてくれ』と言った者が、だれであるか知っていたならば、あなたの方から願い出て、その人から生ける水をもらったことであろう」

女はイエスに言った、
「主よ、あなたは、くむ物をお持ちにならず、その上、井戸は深いのです。その生ける水を、どこから手に入れるのですか。あなたは、この井戸を下さったわたしたちの父ヤコブよりも、偉いかたなのですか。ヤコブ自身も飲み、その子らも、その家畜も、この井戸から飲んだのですが」

イエスは女に答えて言われた、
「この水を飲む者はだれでも、またかわくであろう。しかし、わたしが与える水を飲む者は、いつまでも、かわくことがないばかりか、わたしが与える水は、その人のうちで泉となり、永遠の命に至る水が、わきあがるであろう」

女はイエスに言った、
「主よ、わたしがかわくことがなく、また、ここにくみにこなくてもよいように、その水をわたしに下さい」

イエスは女に言われた、
「あなたの夫を呼びに行って、ここに連れてきなさい」

女は答えて言った、「わたしには夫はありません」

イエスは女に言われた、
「夫がないと言ったのは、もっともだ。あなたには五人の夫があったが、今のはあなたの夫ではない。あなたの言葉のとおりである」

女はイエスに言った、
「主よ、わたしはあなたを預言者と見ます。わたしたちの先祖は、この山で礼拝をしたのですが、あなたがたは礼拝すべき場所は、エルサレムにあると言っています」

イエスは女に言われた、
「女よ、わたしの言うことを信じなさい。あなたがたが、この山でも、またエルサレムでもない所で、父を礼拝する時が来る。あなたがたは自分の知らないものを拝んでいるが、わたしたちは知っているかたを礼拝している。救はユダヤ人から来るからである。

しかし、まことの礼拝をする者たちが、霊とまこととをもって父を礼拝する時が来る。そうだ、今きている。父は、このような礼拝をする者たちを求めておられるからである。神は霊であるから、礼拝をする者も、霊とまこととをもって礼拝すべきである」

女はイエスに言った、
「わたしは、キリストと呼ばれるメシヤがこられることを知っています。そのかたがこられたならば、わたしたちに、いっさいのことを知らせて下さるでしょう」

イエスは女に言われた、
「あなたと話をしているこのわたしが、それである」

ふつかの後に、イエスはここを去ってガリラヤへ行かれた。イエスはみずからはっきり、「預言者は自分の故郷では敬われないものだ」と言われたのである。

Jesus answered the woman, saying:
"Whoever drinks this water will thirst again. But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

God resides within us, connecting heaven and humanity.

Why is it important that Jesus was born of Mary? Why was redemption necessary? Why did He resurrect? Why did His message spread so widely across the world? These are questions often asked in workshops, and when they are, I recall this passage.

From a non-believer's perspective, one might say that society created God. As people formed families, built cities, nations, and empires, the belief system evolved—from polytheism to monotheism, adopted by empires for maintaining order.

The long suffering of human hearts and nations yearned for a savior to remove pain and bring salvation. It is in this context that Jesus was born. God's presence manifests in heaven, in the hearts of people, and within us.

I look to the sky and wonder if a divine creator is there—a God of polytheism that created nations or a God above it all. I believe in the latter.

John's Gospel: Jacob's Well

As Jesus left Judea and headed back to Galilee, He had to pass through Samaria. He arrived in the town of Sychar near the plot of land Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob's well was there.

Tired from His journey, Jesus sat by the well around noon. A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink." His disciples had gone into town to buy food.

The Samaritan woman said, "You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

Jesus answered, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."

The woman said, "Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and livestock?"

Jesus replied, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

The woman said, "Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water."

Jesus told her, "Go, call your husband and come back."

She replied, "I have no husband."

Jesus said, "You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is quite true."

The woman said, "Sir, I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem."

Jesus declared, "Believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.

Yet a time is coming—and has now come—when true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth."

The woman said, "I know that Messiah, called Christ, is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us."

Then Jesus declared, "I, the one speaking to you—I am He."

Two days later, Jesus left for Galilee, saying, "A prophet is without honor in his own hometown."
