隣街を見よう　1

　鎌倉市の統計の基本を押さえるのワ－クショップをやり遂げる。リアル参加者はなく、オンラインで無名の参加者相手に2時間喋り続いて終わる。隣街を見ようと言って、締めくくる。
　
　地球から宇宙、宇宙から地球の動画を見せ、自分の考えを手放すように説く。

　鎌倉市の統計、人口、税財政、事業所、観光、教育、福祉の統計、統計同士のつながりを概説する。基本的な数字を見たうえで、どのように私たちは関係性を持つているか、見て選挙公約を自分の仕事を見て欲しい。そこからから地区、市外、県外海外との関係を見てほしい。

　おそらく、何度も失敗しているが、事業経営のための必要なお金の見取図は必要とされるが概略図、統計の俯瞰図は必要とされていない。
ましてや、歴史は必要とされていない。これが最終的には若い人たちの仕事、生活の支えとなると考えているが、伝わらない。今回のワ－クショップの参加申し込みのなさで改めて実感する。それでも選挙前のこの時期ならと思い、改めて問いかけて見たかった。がここま無惨な結果とは思わなかった。

　後半は地区別、若い世代むけ視点をいれて話した。鎌倉市は若い世代が家を買い住み続けたい町なのかと、地区を知りあい補い合うこと伸ばしあうことは出来ないかと。おそらくデザインやウエルビイング、新しい社会的起業家を地域の中の位置づけていくには、違った数字、統計が必要なのかもしれない。数字の中に物語が必要なのかもしれない。
　きっと人は隣までしか見えない、だから隣町をみることから、なのだろう

　隣町の材木座で、食のイベントに行く、少し違う食、世界、顔、お喋りの時間を味わう。望む自分と望まれる自分は違う、ここからだ、隣街を見よう改めて思う。

Let's Look to the Next Town – Part 1
I held a workshop on understanding basic statistics in Kamakura City. No one joined in person, so I spent two hours online speaking to anonymous participants, concluding with the phrase, "Let's look to the next town."

I showed a video zooming out from Earth into space and back again, urging everyone to release their preconceived notions.

We covered essential data on Kamakura’s demographics, taxes, finances, businesses, tourism, education, and welfare, explaining how these figures interconnect. After reviewing these basics, I encouraged participants to reflect on their own jobs and election promises, exploring relationships within neighborhoods and beyond city limits—prefecture-wide, nationwide, globally.

Yet again, I've realized that while detailed financial roadmaps are valued, broader statistical overviews aren't deemed necessary—much less history. Even though I believe these overviews ultimately support young people's careers and lives, the lack of registrations for this workshop vividly highlighted the disconnect. I had hoped this election season would prompt a reconsideration, but the stark lack of interest caught me by surprise.

In the second half, I focused on perspectives relevant to younger generations, asking: Is Kamakura a city where young people can buy homes and want to stay? Can neighborhoods foster mutual understanding and growth? Perhaps placing new designs, wellness initiatives, and social entrepreneurs in local contexts requires different types of statistics—perhaps statistics interwoven with stories.

People often only see as far as their neighbors—so, perhaps we must start by looking at the next town.

Later, I attended a food event in neighboring Zaimokuza, experiencing new tastes, worlds, faces, and conversations. Realizing the difference between the self we want to be and the self others expect us to be—this is where it all begins. Indeed, let's look to the next town.
