ロ－マ教皇を悼む

　先日　教皇が逝去された。南米出身の貧困の理解のある人だった、解放の神学も目の当たりにした。総合知と共通善の基づく
環境問題を超えた世界の見直しを進めた。神父の性犯罪克服。女性の登用も日本の教会からも感じ取ることができた。中国に対しては
柔軟だったと思う、
　
　前の教皇が哲学者で伝統的ないい意味で正統派だったのと対照的だった。開明派、伝統派、開明派と3代の教皇の下、信仰生活を送って、日本という枠を超えて世界とつながり、指導を受けられたことを改めて感謝している。

　数年前、東京ドームで、教皇ミサに出る機会があった。優しい笑顔を思いながら哀悼の意を示す。

ourning the Passing of the Pope

The Pope has passed away.

He was a man from South America who understood poverty and had witnessed Liberation Theology firsthand. He sought a rethinking of the world—not just on environmental issues—but based on integral knowledge and the common good.
He confronted clerical sexual abuse and promoted the role of women—a change even felt in churches here in Japan. His approach to China, I believe, was flexible.

In contrast to the previous Pope, who was a philosopher and a traditionalist in the best sense, this Pope was progressive.
I’ve lived my life of faith under three Popes: progressive, traditional, and then progressive again. Through them, I have been able to transcend the boundaries of Japan and connect with the world. For that, I am deeply grateful.

A few years ago, I had the chance to attend his Mass at Tokyo Dome.
With his gentle smile in my memory, I offer my heartfelt condolences.
