Chapter Nineteen: Words and Silence — Between the Ones Who Speak and Those Who Cannot
"Here, you don’t need a name or a voice.
Just your presence is enough."
That was the only rule in Zone Zero —
a place where those silenced by violence had gathered.
People without hearing.
People without words.
And people the world had never listened to.
Ridea, a bearer of language, hesitated before entering.
Was she truly qualified to step inside?
🕯️ "Silence is resistance."
“Why won’t you speak?”
Once, Ridea had asked a homeless man sitting on the street in silence.
He waved a hand gently —
as if to say, “There’s no need to speak.”
At the time, she did not understand.
That silence, too, could be an act of will.
A language to resist violence.
📖 "Some things are lost the moment they’re spoken."
In Zone Zero, reading poetry aloud was forbidden.
Instead, an empty “white anthology” was passed around.
Each person projected their own silence onto the blank pages.
When Ridea first held the book, a feeling gripped her:
"Do not write.
If I speak this aloud, it will become someone else's story."
Ah — this is the weight of the inexpressible.
💬 "Who will catch the prayers that cannot be put into words?"
One night, Ridea sat with a deaf girl.
The girl signed:
“father”,
“tears”,
“explosion.”
Ridea understood it was a memory of war —
the loss of family.
But she refused to “speak” the story on her behalf.
"I must not represent this pain.
I must not give this silence meaning.
All I can do… is remain silent together."
⚖️ "To carry the privilege of speech is to carry its weight."
Ridea had always fought with words.
Now, for the first time, she saw how words could harm.
"I could fight because I could speak.
But those who couldn’t…
they endured the world by not speaking."
Silence was not weakness.
It was the last prayer of every soul that could not be voiced.
✍️ "To carve unrecorded silence into history"
Ridea made a choice:
To find a way to inscribe the contours of the world —
without stealing the voices of the voiceless.
She went to the wall of Zone Zero,
and marked a single dot: ·
Not a poem.
Not a name.
Just a pause.
Others followed.
·
··
···
······
Pain that had never become words…
now weaved into a silent rhythm.
🕊️ "Silence resembles the form of God."
In her notebook, Ridea wrote:
“When God speaks, the world begins.
But when God is silent,
humanity is born.
Within each of us,
silence is the final sanctuary —
untouched, unbroken, divine.”
🌌 Chapter Twenty Preview:
“Stars and Structures — For the Freedom to Look Up at the Sky”
In a city caged by systems,
amid those who’ve lost their voices,
and under the weight of capital and AI,
Ridea looks up and says:
“We still have the power to gaze freely at the stars.”
In the next chapter, we explore:
space and prayer,
freedom and structure,
and what it means to “look.”
