今回はあらためて、“教養の基本”という視点から、
やさしく・落ち着いて・ゆっくり読む時間をつくります。

聖書は「西洋の教科書」でもある

哲学、文学、絵画、音楽、映画――
西洋の文化の背景には、いつもどこかに聖書があります。

「創世記」は、世界の始まり、人間、罪、自由の物語

「マタイによる福音書」は、イエスという人物と、当時の社会の物語

今回のワークショップでは、
創世記20～25章とマタイによる福音書10～15章を
「並べて」読みながら、

一神教と多神教

正義とあわれみ

約束・契約という考え方

言葉と沈黙

そして、AIや現代社会とのつながり

といったテーマを、ゆっくり味わっていきます。

**“人類の古典を、一緒に読んでみる教養の時間”**と考えていただけたら嬉しいです。

むずかしい講義ではなく、「静かな読み合い」

この会は「授業」ではありません。
少人数でテキストを声に出して読み、気になった言葉や場面を出し合いながら、
静かに対話する場です。

宗教の押しつけは一切ありません

専門知識も不要です

初めて聖書を開く方も大歓迎です

わからないところがあっても大丈夫。
「なんだか気になる」「この表現は面白い」
そんな素朴な感想から、一緒に考えを深めていきましょう。

旧約と新約という二つの世界を行き来しながら、
ゆっくりものを考える教養の時間を、ご一緒できたら嬉しいです。Read the Old & New Testaments Together

A Quiet Morning of “Basic Culture”

“I’ve heard the Bible is important, but I’ve never really read it.”
“I’d like to know it as basic culture, not as religion.”

For people who feel this way, we’ve been hosting the
“Old Testament × New Testament Parallel Reading Workshop” (19th session).

This time, we return to the theme of “fundamental cultural literacy” and create a space to read slowly, gently, and calmly.

The Bible as a “Textbook of Western Culture”

Philosophy, literature, painting, music, film—
behind Western culture, the Bible is always quietly present.

Genesis tells stories of the beginning of the world, of human beings, sin, and freedom.

The Gospel according to Matthew tells the story of a person called Jesus and the society of his time.

In this workshop,
we will read Genesis 20–25 and Matthew 10–15 “side by side”,
and gently explore themes such as:

Monotheism and polytheism

Justice and mercy

Covenant and promise

Words and silence

And their connections to AI and contemporary society

This is not a place to ask whether you “believe or not.”
Think of it instead as
“a shared time to read one of humanity’s classics as basic culture.”

Not a Difficult Lecture, but a Quiet Space of Shared Reading

This gathering is not a “class.”
We read the text aloud in a small group,
share words or scenes that stay with us,
and quietly enter into dialogue.

There is no religious pressure of any kind.

No prior knowledge is required.

First-time Bible readers are very welcome.

It’s completely fine if you don’t understand everything.
We simply start from things like,
“That line stuck with me,” “This expression is interesting,”
and deepen our reflections together.

Recommended for People Who…

Are interested in humanities fields such as philosophy, literature, art, or music

Don’t know much about religion but want to broaden their worldview

Want to look at international affairs from a perspective beyond the news

Are curious about the relationship between AI, language, and human beings

Want unhurried time to think about questions that have no quick answers

In short, this workshop is perfect for those who are seeking
“time to think without rushing.”

If possible, please bring a Bible that includes the following passages:

The Gospel according to Matthew 10–15

(The New Interconfessional Translation in Japanese is ideal,
but any translation is perfectly fine.)

If you don’t own a Bible, we will have a few copies available on site,
so please feel free to join without worry.
